Crochet Hot Water Bottle Cover

This crocheted hot water bottle cover is the perfect quick and cosy winter project. Simple stitches, soft yarn and creative colour combinations turn leftover yarn into a warm and practical accessory. Materials

Abbreviations 

  • ch – chain 
  • tch – turning chain(s) 
  • SM – stitch marker 
  • hdc – half double crochet sl 
  • st – slip stitch

1. Crochet the base and body 

Start with a slip knot and chain until reaching the width of your hot water bottle. 

Round 1: 

  • Ch 2 (mark the 2nd ch). 
  • Work hdc along the foundation chain. 
  • In the last ch, work 2 hdc. 
  • Continue on the opposite side of the chain. 
  • In the last ch, work 2 hdc again. 
  • Close with a sl st into the marked chain. 

Round 2: 

  • Ch 2 (mark the 2nd). 
  • Work 1 hdc in each stitch. 
  • Close with a sl st. 

Continue repeating Round 2 until reaching the height of the hot water bottle excluding the neck.

2. Colour change 

Cut the yarn, tie on the new colour and crochet over the yarn ends to secure them.

3. Create the side seams 

  1. After the last round, cut yarn with a long tail. 
  2. Count one third of the stitches on both sides and place SMs. 
  3. Join front and back at these points. 
  4. Sew towards the edges using a whip stitch. 
  5. The centre remains open for the neck.

4. Crochet the neck 

  1. Attach yarn again, ch 2. 
  2. Crochet hdc around the opening, close with sl st. 
  3. Repeat until the crocheted piece fully covers the neck. 
  4. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
