Crochet a Fox

Fox

Materials

Crochet pieces

Make each piece separately, then sew everything together at the end:

  • Body
  • Head
  • Muzzle
  • 2 arms
  • 2 legs
  • 2 ears
  • Tummy panel, worked flat
  • Tail

Abbreviations

Crochet the body

Work in continuous spiral rounds.

Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.

Rnd 1: With Pumpkin, ch 2, then work 8 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 8 sts).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 16 sts).

Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 8 times (= 24 sts).

Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 8 times (= 32 sts).

Rnds 5–16: 1 sc in each st (= 32 sts).

Rnd 17: *2 sc, sc the 3rd and 4th sts together to decrease* 8 times (= 24 sts). Stuff the body with toy stuffing.

Rnd 18: *1 sc, sc the 2nd and 3rd sts together to decrease* 8 times (= 16 sts).

Rnd 19: *sc 2 sts together to decrease* 8 times (= 8 sts).

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail.

Add more stuffing to the body.

Use the yarn tail to draw the remaining sts tightly together, then weave in the end.

Crochet the head

Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: With Pumpkin, ch 2, then work 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 6 sts).

Rnd 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 9 sts).

Rnd 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 12 sts).

Rnd 4: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 15 sts).

Rnd 5: *4 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 18 sts).

Rnd 6: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (= 24 sts).

Rnd 7: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (= 30 sts).

Rnds 8–12: 1 sc in each st (= 30 sts).

Change to White and continue in continuous spiral rounds.

Rnds 13–16: 1 sc in each st (= 30 sts).

Insert the safety eyes at the colour change between White and Pumpkin, leaving 5 stitches between the eyes.

Rnd 17: *3 sc, sc the 4th and 5th sts together to decrease* 6 times (= 24 sts).

Stuff the head.

Rnd 18: *1 sc, sc the 2nd and 3rd sts together to decrease* 6 times (= 12 sts).

Rnd 19: *sc 2 sts together to decrease* 6 times (= 6 sts).

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Add more stuffing to the head. Use the yarn tail to draw the remaining sts tightly together, then weave in the end.

Crochet the muzzle

Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: With White, ch 2, then work 4 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 4 sts).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 8 sts).

Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 4 times (= 12 sts).

Rnd 4: 1 sc in each st (= 12 sts).

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail.

Crochet the arms (make 2)

Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: With Black, ch 2, then work 10 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 10 sts).

Rnds 2–3: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).

Change to Pumpkin and continue in continuous spiral rounds.

Rnds 4–10: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).


Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail.

Lightly stuff the arms.

To close each arm, fold the final round in half and sew the edges together flat.

Crochet the legs (make 2)

Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: With Black, ch 2, then work 10 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 10 sts).

Rnd 2: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).

Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 5 times (= 15 sts).

Change to Pumpkin and continue in continuous spiral rounds.

Rnds 4–7: 1 sc in each st (= 15 sts).

Rnd 8: *1 sc, sc the 2nd and 3rd sts together to decrease* 5 times (= 10 sts).

Rnds 9–12: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail.

Stuff the legs in the same way as the arms, then close them flat.

Crochet the ears (make 2)

Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: With Black, ch 2, then work 3 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 3 sts).

Rnd 2: *2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 6 sts).

Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 9 sts).

Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 12 sts).

Change to Pumpkin.

Rnd 5: 1 sc in each st (= 12 sts).

Rnd 6: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 15 sts).

Rnd 7: 1 sc in each st (= 15 sts).

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Fold each ear flat in half and sew it together.

Crochet the tummy panel

With White, ch 6 and work back and forth in rows.

Row 1: 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, then 1 sc in each remaining ch (= 5 sts).

Rows 2–4: 1 sc in each st (= 5 sts).

Row 5: sc the 1st and 2nd sts together to decrease, 1 sc, sc the 3rd and 4th sts together to decrease (= 3 sts).

Rows 6–7: 1 sc in each st (= 3 sts).

Row 8: sc the 1st and 2nd sts together to decrease, 1 sc (= 2 sts).

Row 9: sc the 1st and 2nd sts together to decrease (= 1 st).

Work sc evenly around the triangle, always working 2 sc into each corner.

Crochet the tail Work in rounds.

Rnd 1: With White, ch 2, then work 3 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 3 sts).

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 6 sts).

Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 9 sts).

Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 12 sts).

Rnd 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 15 sts).

Rnds 6–8: 1 sc in each st (= 15 sts).

Rnd 9: *3 sc, sc the 4th and 5th sts together to decrease* 3 times (= 12 sts).

Change to Pumpkin and continue in continuous spiral rounds.

Rnds 10–21: 1 sc in each st (= 12 sts).

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Stuff the tail, then close it flat.

Assemble the crochet fox

Sew the ears onto the head.

Sew the muzzle between the eyes, adding stuffing as you attach it.

Using leftover Pumpkin yarn, sew on a small tuft of hair.

Separate the yarn strands and use 2 strands to embroider the muzzle.

Use Black yarn to sew on small eyelashes.

Sew all the remaining pieces together.

Sew the head to the body.

Attach the legs first, followed by the arms.

Sew on the White tummy panel, then attach the tail.
