Crochet a Deer
Deer
Forest Magic to Crochet: Follow this pattern to make your very own little deer. Using cotton yarn, safety eyes and a little wadding, you’ll create individual crocheted pieces step by step, which are then assembled into a charming amigurumi figure.

The pattern shows you how to crochet the body, head, arms, legs, ears, antlers, belly and tail, and then sew them together.

Materials
- LANA GROSSA Cotone (125 m/50 g), 50 g of each: Beige Red (colour 138), Mocha (colour 29) & White (colour 22)
- Prym 3 mm soft-grip crochet hook
- 2 Union Knopf/Prym 8 mm safety eyes
- Prym yarn needle
- Prym polyester stuffing
- Prym stitch marker
- Prym Love embroidery scissors, 10 cm, mint/pink
Crochet pieces
Crochet the following pieces separately and sew them together at the end:
- Body
- Head
- Muzzle
- 2 arms
- 2 legs
- 2 ears
- 2 antlers
- Belly, worked flat
- Tail, made from two pieces
Crochet abbreviations

Crochet the body
Work in continuous spiral rounds.
Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.
Rnd 1: Using Beige Red, ch 2, then work 8 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 8 sts).
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 16 sts).
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st * 8 times (= 24 sts).
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st * 8 times (= 32 sts).
Rnds 5–16: 1 sc in each st (= 32 sts).
Rnd 17: *2 sc, sc the 3rd and 4th sts together * 8 times (= 24 sts).
Stuff the body with polyester stuffing.
Rnd 18: *1 sc, sc the 2nd and 3rd sts together * 8 times (= 16 sts).
Rnd 19: *sc 2 sts together * 8 times (= 8 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Add more stuffing to the body. Use the yarn tail to pull the remaining sts tightly closed, then weave in the end.
Crochet the head
Work in continuous spiral rounds. Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.
Rnd 1: Using Beige Red, ch 2, then work 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 6 sts).
Rnd 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 9 sts).
Rnd 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 12 sts).
Rnd 4: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 15 sts).
Rnd 5: *4 sc, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (= 18 sts).
Rnd 6: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (= 24 sts).
Rnd 7: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (= 30 sts).
Rnds 8–16: 1 sc in each st (= 30 sts).
Insert the safety eyes between Rnds 11 and 12, leaving 5 sts between them.
Rnd 17: *3 sc, sc the 4th and 5th sts together* 6 times (= 24 sts).
Stuff the head.
Rnd 18: *1 sc, sc the 2nd and 3rd sts together* 6 times (= 12 sts).
Rnd 19: sc 2 sts together 6 times (= 6 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Add more stuffing to the head. Use the yarn tail to pull the remaining sts tightly closed, then weave in the end.
Crochet the muzzle
Work in rounds.
Rnd 1: Using White, ch 2, then work 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 6 sts).
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 12 sts).
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st 6 times (= 18 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Crochet the arms – make 2
Work in rounds.
Rnd 1: Using Mocha, ch 2, then work 10 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 10 sts).
Rnds 2–3: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).
Change to Beige Red and continue working in spiral rounds.
Rnds 4–9: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Lightly stuff the arms. To close each arm, fold the final round in half and sew the edges together flat.
Crochet the legs – make 2
Work in rounds.
Rnd 1: Using Mocha, ch 2, then work 10 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 10 sts).
Rnd 2: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* 5 times (= 15 sts).
Change to Beige Red and continue working in spiral rounds.
Rnds 4–7: 1 sc in each st (= 15 sts).
Rnd 8: *1 sc, sc the 2nd and 3rd sts together* 5 times (= 10 sts).
Rnds 9–12: 1 sc in each st (= 10 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Stuff the legs in the same way as the arms and sew them closed flat.
Crochet the ears – make 2
Work in rounds.
Rnd 1: Using Beige Red, ch 2, then work 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 6 sts).
Rnd 2: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* twice (= 8 sts).
Rnd 3: 1 sc in each st (= 8 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Fold each ear in half so it lies flat, then sew it together.
Crochet the antlers – make 2
Work in continuous spiral rounds.
Main antler stem
Rnd 1: Using Mocha, ch 2, then work 3 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 3 sts).
Rnd 2 onward: Work 1 sc in each st until the antler stem measures approx. 3 cm.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Antler branch
Rnd 1: Using Mocha, ch 2, then work 3 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 3 sts).
Rnd 2 onward: Work 1 sc in each st until the branch measures approx. 1.5 cm.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Sew the branch onto the main antler stem.
Crochet the white belly
Using White, ch 6 and work back and forth in rows.
Row 1: 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, then 1 sc in each following st (= 5 sts).
Rows 2–4: 1 sc in each st (= 5 sts).
Row 5: sc the 1st and 2nd sts together, 1 sc, sc the 3rd and 4th sts together (= 3 sts).
Rows 6–7: 1 sc in each st (= 3 sts).
Row 8: sc the 1st and 2nd sts together, 1 sc (= 2 sts).
Row 9: sc the 1st and 2nd sts together (= 1 st).
Work sc evenly around the triangle, placing 2 sc in each corner.
Crochet the tail
Work in rounds. The tail consists of one light circle and one dark circle.
Light circle
Rnd 1: Using White, ch 2, then work 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 6 sts).
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 12 sts).
Rnd 3: 1 sc, 2 sc in next st 6 times (= 18 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Dark circle
Rnd 1: Using Mocha, ch 2, then work 6 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook (= 6 sts).
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (= 12 sts).
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Assemble and finish the crochet deer
All crochet pieces are now complete.
Sew the ears to the head at Rnd 6.
Sew the antlers next to the ears.
Position the muzzle between the eyes, stuffing it as you sew it in place.
Use leftover Mocha yarn to add a small tuft of hair.
Separate the yarn strands and use 2 plies to embroider a muzzle.
Sew the head to the body.
Attach the legs first, followed by the arms.
Sew on the white belly.
Next, sew on the white tail piece first, then place and sew the dark piece on top.
Using white yarn, sew on the spots on the back and above the eyes.
Use Mocha yarn to embroider small eyelashes.
