Required Materials

  • Approx. 25 g Schachenmayr Catania
  • Approx. 10 g Lana Grossa Per Fortuna
  • Prym knitting needles 4.5 mm
  • Yarn needle
  • Sewing needle & thread
  • Hair clip blanks

Main Bow Piece

Cast on 16 stitches and knit garter stitch for 16 cm, slipping the last 3 stitches purlwise on each row to create a neat i-cord edge.

Bind off.

Center Band

Cast on 4 stitches and knit stockinette stitch for 8 cm.

On wrong-side rows, knit the first and last stitch to form a clean edge.

Bind off.

Bow Tails

Cast on 4 stitches.

Rows 1–3: Knit the first stitch, then slip the last 3 purlwise (i-cord edge).

Every 4th row: Increase 1 stitch at the beginning, slip the last 3 purlwise.

Continue this pattern until you have 12 stitches and 32 rows worked.

Next, knit 20 rows without increases.

Row 53: Knit 3, work 3 decreases (knit 2 together through back loop), slip 3 purlwise.

Row 54: Knit 3, 1 decrease, 1 knit, slip 3 purlwise.

Row 55: Knit 3, 1 decrease, slip 3 purlwise → 7 stitches remain.

Knit 10 rows even.

Row 66: Knit 3, make 1 increase, slip 3 purlwise.

Row 67: Knit 4, make 1 increase, slip 3 purlwise.

Row 68: Knit 3, make 1 increase in each of the next 3 stitches, slip 3 purlwise → 12 stitches.

Then knit 20 rows without increases.

Row 89: Knit 7, make 1 decrease, slip 3 purlwise.

Rows 90–92: Knit even.

Row 93: Knit 6, make 1 decrease, slip 3 purlwise.

Continue until 4 stitches remain. Bind off and weave in ends.

Assembly

Fold the bow tails at the narrow middle point to form a right angle.

Place the main bow piece on top and gather in the center. Wrap the center band around both pieces and sew the short ends together at the back.

Attach the finished bow to the hair clip with needle and thread – and your handmade accessory is ready to wear.
