Gauge swatch

A gauge swatch is useful for this crochet project so that the crocheted cover fits the plant pot well later on.

The gauge swatch shown was not washed and not blocked.

For the gauge swatch, 21 ch were made, followed by 13 rows of half double crochet.

Step 1: Crochet the bod

The body is worked entirely in half double crochet. Close each round with a slip stitch. Crochet a gauge swatch first so you can better judge whether you crochet loosely or tightly. Try the piece on the plant pot again and again while crocheting.

Start with grey.

Rnd 1: Work 9 hdc into a MR, close to a circle with 1 sl st. (9 sts)

Rnd 24: Work 2 sc, hold the opening together and crochet it closed with 9 sc. (9 sts)

Rnd 25: Work 9 sc into the BLO and 9 sc into the FLO.

This creates the bend in the leg for the knee. (18 sts)

Rnds 26–30: 1 sc in each st. (18 sts) – 5 rounds

Rnd 31: Work 1 sc, hold the opening together and crochet it closed with 8 sc.

Right leg: Ch 1, 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr.

Left leg: Ch 3, 2 tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 2 sc.

Finish with 1 sl st. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Step 3: Crochet 2 arms

Start with white.

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into a MR. (6 sts)

Change to brown.

Step 4: Crochet 2 ears

Start with white.

Crochet the brown details in the same way.

Do not cut the brown yarn, as you will continue crocheting with it afterwards.

Place the white detail underneath the brown detail and crochet both pieces together. First crochet the sides together, then the lower edge.

For the sides, crochet:

6 sc, (2 dc into one st) 2 times, ch 3, (2 dc into one st) 2 times, 6 sc.

Crochet the lower edge together with 8 stitches.

Finish with 1 sl st. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Step 5: Crochet the face

Use white.

Row 1: Work 4 sc into a MR, turn. (4 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, inc in every st, turn. (8 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, (1 sc, inc) 4 times, turn. (12 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, (2 sc, inc) 4 times, turn. (16 sts)

Step 6: Crochet the muzzle

Use white.

Ch 30 and continue from the 2nd ch from the hook.

Rnd 1: 28 sc, 3 sc into the last st. Do not turn; continue crocheting on the other side: 28 sc, 3 sc into the last st. (62 sts)

Rnd 2: 28 sc, 3 inc, 28 sc, 3 inc. (68 sts)

Rnd 3: 28 sc, (1 sc, inc) 3 times, 28 sc, (1 sc, inc) 3 times. (74 sts)

Rnds 4–5: 1 sc in each st, sl st. (74 sts) – 2 rounds

When the muzzle is finished, sew up any gaps that formed during the first round.

In this example, the left side faces outwards.

Step 7: Crochet and embroider 2 eyes

Start with black.

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into a MR. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: 3 inc.

Change to grey.

Continue Rnd 2: 3 inc. (12 sts)

Change to black.

Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) 2 times.

Change to gold.

Continue Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) 5 times. (19 sts)

Finish with 1 sl st. Cut the yarn and weave it in on the wrong side of the eye.

Then take a black thread and pass it through the inside of the 19 stitches, or embroider this area.

Use white thread for the highlights in the eye. Embroider a small V and an additional light reflection as shown in the picture.

Knot and weave in all yarn ends on the wrong side of the eye.

Step 8: Crochet the nose

Use black.

Ch 6 and continue from the 2nd ch from the hook.

Row 1: 5 sc, turn. (5 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, skip the first st, 4 sc, turn. (4 sts)

Step 9: Sew on the individual pieces and finish the Flowerpot Tige

Sew on the arms and legs first.

Next, sew on the face first, then the muzzle. Place the pieces on the project before sewing so you can find the right position. Stuff the muzzle with toy stuffing.
