Chicken Kiki

Spring is in the air – and Chick Kiki is here to bring a little extra joy to your home. With this amigurumi crochet pattern, you can make a cheerful little crochet chick that is perfect as an Easter decoration, a handmade gift or a sweet seasonal keepsake. You can also use a different yarn for Chick Kiki. Please keep in mind that every crocheter works with a slightly different tension. For a neat, long-lasting shape, crochet firmly and stuff the chick well.

Stitch markers are helpful for marking the beginning or end of each round. The chick is crocheted from top to bottom.

Step 1: Crochet the head and body

Ch 4 and begin in the 2nd ch from the hook.

1. Rnd: 2 sts into the foundation chain, 3 sts into the last st. Do not turn; continue crocheting along the other side of the chain: 2 sts, 2 sts into the last st. (9)

In the next round, crochet into the back loop only. This creates the front loops that will be used later to crochet in the little tutu. If you do not want to add a tutu, simply crochet this round as usual.

Do not forget to stuff the body.

Tip: Take a small amount of stuffing, place your index and middle fingers into the opening and distribute the stuffing evenly.

Finish with a sl st and weave in the yarn end.

Step 2: Crochet the individual pieces

Wings – make 2

1. Rnd: 5 sts into a MR. (5)

5. Rnd: (4 sts, inc) 2 times. (12)

Hold the piece flat and crochet the opening closed with 4 stitches.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Feet – make 2

First crochet 3 identical toes. After round 4 of the first two toes, cut the yarn and weave in the ends. On the third toe, continue with round 5.

1. Rnd: 6 sts into a MR. (6)

2–4. Rnd (3 rounds): 1 st in each st. (6)

Now join the 3 toes together.

Toe 1 – Toe 2 – Toe 3

5. Rnd: 3 sts into toe 2, 2 sts into toe 3, dec, 2 sts into toe 3, 3 sts into toe 2, 2 sts into toe 1, dec. (16)

This is the new beginning of the round.

6. Rnd: (dec, 2 sts) 4 times. (12)

7. Rnd: dec 6 times. (6)

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.

You will use this tail later to sew the feet to the body.

Beak

1. Rnd: 5 sts into a MR. (5)

2. Rnd: 1 st in each st. (5)

Close the piece with a sl st and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Bow

Ch 9 and crochet back along the chain.

Work 4 rows as follows:

(3 sts, 2 sl sts, 3 sts), ch 1, turn.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Use a sewing needle to bring the yarn tail to the centre of the bow. Wrap it around the middle several times, knot securely and use this same yarn tail later to sew the bow to the head."

Step 3: Sew on the individual pieces and finish the chick

Crochet the tutu first if you would like your chick to have one.

Hold the work so that the head points down. Insert the crochet hook as shown in the photo.

Insert the hook, ch 1, then crochet 2 hdc into each front loop. At the end, join the tutu with a sl st, cut the yarn and weave in the end.

Embroider the eyes.

Position the beak on the head and sew it in place using the yarn tail.

Position the feet and sew them to the body.

Tip: Use glass-head pins to find the right placement before sewing the pieces on permanently.

Position the bow and wings, then sew them in place.
