Info
You can also use different yarns and different safety eyes. As everyone crochets a little differently, the size and shape may vary slightly. Crochet firmly and stuff the buffalo evenly so that it keeps its shape for a long time.
Stitch markers help you mark the beginning and end of each round. The buffalo is crocheted in continuous spiral rounds from the start. Instructions in brackets are repeated as many times as stated directly after them.
Step 1: Crochet the muzzle
Use the 2.5 mm crochet hook and cotton yarn.
Ch 4.
Rnd 1: Work 2 sts into the foundation chain, 3 sts into the last st. Do not turn; continue crocheting along the other side of the foundation chain: 2 sts, 3 sts into the last st. (10)
Rnd 2: 2 sts, inc 3 times, 2 sts, inc 3 times. (16)
Rnd 3: 2 sts, (1 st, inc) 3 times, 2 sts, (1 st, inc) 3 times. (22)

Close the work with a sl st. Cut the yarn, leaving a long enough tail to sew the muzzle to the head later.
Step 2: Crochet 2 ears
Use the 4 mm crochet hook and fluffy yarn.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sts into a MR. (6)
Rnd 2: Inc in every st. (12)
Rnd 3: Inc in every 2nd st. (18)
Close the work with a sl st and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
Now pinch the ear together and sew the end closed with 2 to 3 stitches (see photos). Crochet a second ear in the same way.
Step 3: Crochet 2 horns
Use the 2.5 mm crochet hook and cotton yarn.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sts into a MR. (6)
Rnd 2: Inc in every st. (12)
Rnds 3–8 (6 rounds): Work 1 st into each st. (12)
Stuff the horns with a little filling. Cut the yarn, leaving a long enough tail to sew the horns to the head later. Crochet a second horn in the same way.
Step 4: Crochet the head
Use the 4 mm crochet hook and fluffy yarn.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sts into a MR. (6)

Attach the safety eyes between rounds 11 and 12, with 8 sts between them.
Stuff the head evenly.
Tip: Use small amounts of stuffing at a time. Place your index and middle fingers into the opening from the left and right and distribute the stuffing carefully so the head becomes nice and even.
Rnd 19: (2 sts, dec) 6 times. (18)

Close the work with a sl st and cut the yarn.
Step 5: Sew on the muzzle
Position the muzzle on the head and sew it on with the long yarn tail (see photos).
Sew every stitch of the muzzle to the head. Insert the needle from the inside to the outside and then back again. Finally, stuff the muzzle with a little filling.
Step 6: Sew on the horns and ears
Position the horns and ears on the head. First secure them with glass-head pins until you are happy with the placement. Then sew them on carefully.
Step 7: Embroider the nostrils and white eye rings
Now embroider the nostrils and the white rings around the eyes (see photos). Guide the yarn evenly so that the facial expression comes out nicely.
Step 8: Crochet 2 arms
Use the 4 mm crochet hook and fluffy yarn.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sts into a MR. (6)

Rnds 4–5 (2 rounds): Work 1 st into each st. (18)

Change colour.

Crochet 2 more sts. Stuff the hooves at the bottom, fold the opening together and crochet it closed with 5 sts.
Crochet a second arm in the same way.
Step 9: Crochet 2 legs
Use the 4 mm crochet hook and fluffy yarn.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sts into a yarn ring. (6)

Rnds 4–5 (2 rounds): Work 1 st into each st. (18)

Cut the yarn, leaving a long enough tail to shape the hooves later.
Change colour.
Rnds 9–15 (7 rounds): Work 1 st into each st. (12)
Crochet 7 more sts. Stuff the hooves at the bottom, fold the opening together and crochet it closed with 5 sts. For the first leg, cut the yarn and weave in the end.
For the second leg, do not cut the yarn, as you will continue crocheting the body directly from here.
Step 10: Shape the hooves
Now shape the hooves. Pick up the yarn with the needle and guide it downwards. Then insert the needle at the top of the leg and pull the yarn tight to create the typical hoof shape. Knot the yarn and weave it in carefully.
Step 11: Crochet the body and finish Buffalo Beni
Continue working with the yarn from the second leg.
Rnd 1: Ch 5. Now crochet into the first leg: 5 sts in FLO, turn and continue along the other side of the first leg: 5 sts in BLO. Then work 5 sts into the chain. Continue into the second leg: 5 sts in BLO, then continue along the other side of the second leg: 5 sts in FLO, 5 sts into the chain. (30)
