Crocheted Hanging Plant Basket

Hanging plant holders are on trend and make it possible to both use and beautify a boring wall! Besides the classic hanging basket, there is the option of crocheting hanging plant baskets that safely enclose your plants and look cute at the same time. They are also perfect for air plants, so-called tillandsias, which do not need soil to grow. I would like to show you two variations for a smaller and larger plant basket.

Short instructions small basket (approx. 14 x 8 cm):

1st round: Join 4 ch to form a ring.

2nd row: 6 hdc

3rd row: double sts with half double crochet (12).

4th row: double every 2nd st with half double crochet (18),

5. and 6. row: double every 3rd st with half double crochet

7th and 8th row: 1 half double crochet, 1 st, 1 half double crochet and continue the row with half double crochet

Hanger: 14 + 1 ch and crochet back to it in dcstb.

Stand in the initial stitch of the LMK, pick up the end of the chain stitches on the needle and crochet in KM

9th row: 6 dc, divide all sts in between in half, 6 dc.

Skip the sts with hook

10th row: hdc (26)

Short instructions for large basket (approx. 17 x 11 cm)::

1st row: join 4 ch to form a ring.

2nd row: 6 hdc

3rd row: double sts with half double crochet (12)

4th row: double every 2nd st with half double crochet (18),

5. and 6. row: double every 3rd st with half double crochet

7th to 10th row: 1 half double crochet, 1 STB, 1 half double crochetand continue row with half double crochet

Hanger: 14 + 1 ch and crochet back to it in dcstb.

Stand in the initial stitch of the chain, pick up the end of the chainon the needle and crochet in slip stitch.

11th row: 8 dc, divide all sts in between in half, 8 dc.

Skip the sts with hook

12th row: half double crochet (35)

Materials:

katia EKOS yarn in the colour beige

Prym 1530 Crochet hook size 5

Scissors

First crochet an air chain of 4 air stitches, prick the first air stitch and join the chain with a chain stitch to form a ring.

Then crochet 6 half stitches in this ring.

In the following row we double each stitch with half sticks, so that we have 12 stitches in total.

In the 3rd row, every other stitch is doubled with a half stitch, so that this round consists of 18 stitches in total.

In the 5th and 6th row we double every third stitch. From here on it is helpful to mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.

In the 7th and 8th row crochet a half crochet in the first stitch, a double crochet and again a half crochet. Then crochet the rows in half stitches without further doubling the stitches.
For the larger version of the plant basket we crochet another 9th and 10th row in this way.
Gradually the drop shape is created and the edge curves.

After the 8th or 10th row crochet the hanger. To do this, crochet a chain of 14 air stitches and a winding air stitch. Then crochet back along the chain in half stitches.
Back at the beginning, we prick the beginning stitch with the crochet hook, fold the chain of air stitches over once to make a loop and pick up its end on the crochet hook. Then we attach the hanger with a chain stitch.

In the next row crochet 6 or for the larger version 8 half stitches and then halve all the following stitches except for the last 6 or 8 of this row.
To halve, we slip into the stitch as if we were crocheting a half crochet stitch and pull the thread through the stitch, but the two loops remain on the needle. Then we slip into the next stitch and pull the thread through. Now there are three loops on the needle, which are then crocheted off at once.

In the final round we skip the stitch where the hanger is attached and then just crochet another whole round of half tricks.
Finally, cut the thread, pull it through and sew it.
