k2tog p-wise – knit 2 st together purlwise (decrease 1 st)

ssk2 p-wise – knit slipped stitches together purlwise (decrease 1 st)

k2tog k-wise – knit 2 st together knitwise, (decrease 1 st)

p – purl

st – stitches

SM – stitch marker

k – knit

row – row

rnd – round(s)

RM – beginning of round marker

That's how it's done:

Step 1 – Cuffs

Both socks are knitted in exactly the same way. Cast on 56 (60, 60, 64) st, place the RM close into a round.

Work 13 rnd in 1 x 1 rib (k1tbl, p 1).

Step 2 – Leg

Rnd 1: k 28 (30, 30, 32) st, place SM, k 6 (7, 7, 8), p 2, k 12, p 2, k 6 (7, 7, 8) to SM, remove SM.

Rnd 2: knit all st up to 1st SM, remove SM, k 6 (7, 7, 8), p 2, k 12, p 2, k 6 (7, 7, 8) up to RM, remove RM.

Rnd 3: knit all st, up to 2nd SM, remove SM, k 6 (7, 7, 8), p 2, slip 3 st onto a cable needle and leave at back of work, k next 3 st, then k 3 st from cable needle, slip 3 st on cable needle and leave in front of work, k next 3 st, then k 3 st from cable needle, p 2, k 6 (7, 7, 8) up to RM, remove RM.

Rnd 4-8: work as rnd 2.

Repeat rnd 3-8 until the sock measures approx. 10 cm from the cast-on edge. Now knit the flap and gusset square. Mark your last round. Rnd 3-8 form the pattern repeat, which is worked after the heel.

From now on it is abbreviated as "pattern repeat" and is not described again.

Step 3 – Flap and gusset square heel

The flap and gusset square heel is worked in rows over the next 28 (30, 30, 32) st.

Row 1 (right-side row): knit all st, turn.

Row 2 (wrong-side row): k 2, p until 2 st from end of row, k 2, turn.

Repeat rows 1-2 13 (14, 14, 15) times. Now knit the flap.

Row 1 (right-side row): k 10 (11, 11, 11), place marker, k 8 (8, 8, 10), place marker, k2tog p-wise, turn.

Row 2 (wrong-side row): slip the 1st st from the left needle with yarn in front of work, remove SM, purl to next SM, remove SM, k2tog k-wise, turn.

Row 3 (right-side row): slip the 1st st from the left needle with yarn behind work, remove SM, knit to next SM, remove SM, k2tog k-wise, turn.

Row 4 (wrong-side row): work as row 2.

Repeat rows 3-4 a total of 9 (10, 10, 10) times. There are still 10 (10, 10, 12) st of the heel remaining. Now knit again in rounds, increasing stitches at both sides of the heel.

Rnd 1: k 10 (10, 10, 12) st from the heel and remove the SM. Pick up 13 (14, 14, 15) st from the wrong side of the side edge, remove SM, knit to the next SM, knit in pattern repeat to RM, remove RM.

Rnd 2: pick up 13 (14, 14, 15) st from the right side of the side edge, knit to the next SM, remove SM, knit in pattern repeat to RM, remove RM.

Step 4 – Complete

Decrease in the third and every 2nd rnd 4 (4, 4, 5) times, until there are again 56 (60, 60, 64) st on the needle.

Work the decreases as follows: k 1, k2tog k-wise, k all st until 3 st before the next SM, ssk2 p-wise, k 1, remove SM, work the rest of the round in pattern repeat.

After decreasing continue working in the pattern repeat until the foot measures 18 cm (18.5 cm, 20 cm, 21 cm) to the start of the toe. Now work the wedge toe.

Step 5 – Toe

Rnd 1: k 1, ssk2 p-wise, k all st until 3 st before the next SM, ssk2 k-wise, k 1, remove SM, k 1, ssk2 p-wise, k all st until 3 st before the next SM, ssk2 k-wise, k 1, remove RM. (decrease 4 st)

Rnd 2-4: k all st, remove SM when you reach it.

Rnd 5: work as rnd 1 (decrease 4 st)

Rnd 6-7: k all st, remove SM when you reach it.

Rnd 8: work as rnd 1 (decrease 4 st)

Rnd 9-10: work as rnd 6-7.

Rnd 11: work as rnd 1 (decrease 4 st)

Rnd 12: k all st, remove SM when you reach it.

Rnd 13-16: work as rnd 11-12 (decrease 4 st)

Rnd 17: work as rnd 1 (decrease 4 st)

Step 6 – Finish sock

Repeat rnd 17 4 (5, 5, 6) times more until 16 st are left on the needle. Cut off yarn, fasten the last 16 stitches with kitchener stitch, sew in all ends.
