Crochet Snowy Owl “Hedwig”
Inspired by Harry Potter’s loyal owl

Required Materials
- Schachenmayr Catania – Anthracite No. 429 & No. 106 (approx. 10 g)
- Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine – Passion melange No. 127 (approx. 20 g) & Gold melange No. 126 (approx. 30 g)
- Yarn Art Dolce Baby – White No. 80301 (approx. 150 g)
- Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat – Black No. 110
- Crochet hooks 2.0 mm, 3.0 mm, 4.0 mm

Tips
You’ll work the owl in continuous spiral rounds. Make sure your stitches are tight so the stuffing doesn’t show through, and fill as you go to keep the shape even.

Step 1: Crochet the legs
With Yarn Art Dolce Baby White and a 4 mm hook
Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 1st ch (6)
Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: sc in each st (12)
Fasten off the first leg invisibly.

Step 2: Join the legs

Insert the eyes between rounds 35 and 36 with 7 stitches between them, centred on the front – the increases from rnd 4 mark the belly.

Cut the yarn, thread it through the front loops of the last round, pull tight to close and weave in the end inside the body.
Step 4: Shape the eyes and embroider eyelids
Using Schachenmayr Catania White, bring the thread out close to the right eye, guide it under the eye and insert it again close to the left eye.
Bring both ends out of the same stitch at the back of the head, pull tight to create a gentle indent, tie securely and weave in.
With white chenille yarn, embroider soft diagonal stitches above each eye to form eyelids.
Step 5: Wings
With Yarn Art Dolce Baby White + Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat Black, hook 4 mm:
Rnd 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 1st ch (6)
Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) × 3 (9)
Rnd 3: 9 sc
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) × 3 (12)
Continue increasing every few rounds until 27 sc (see original pattern).
Work rnd 12–17: 27 sc each round.

Flatten the opening and join opposite stitches with 9 sc. Leave a long tail.
Make a second wing and sew both slightly angled at the sides around rounds 27–28.
Step 6: Beak
With Schachenmayr Catania Anthracite, hook 2 mm

Rnd 3: (2 sc, inc) × 3 (12)
Flatten, join opposite stitches with 6 sc, leave a long tail and sew the beak 2 rounds below the eyes.
Schritt 7: Tail feathers
With white chenille yarn and black Sweet Treat, hook 4 mm
Each strand: ch 9, work 8 sc back from 2nd ch.
Make 4 strands, then without turning continue:
ch 1, 2 sc in each strand, turning ch (8).
Row 2: dec, 4 sc, dec (6).
Row 3: 1 sc, (chain strand, skip 1 st, 1 sc in front loop) × 2, make another strand, skip 1, 1 sc, turning ch (6).
Row 4: 1 sc, 4 sc in back loops, 1 sc (6).
Leave a long tail and sew the tail centre back at round 7 of the body.
Step 8: Toes
With Catania White, hook 2 mm

Join the toes as follows:
5 sc on 1st toe, 9 sc around 2nd, 4 sc on 1st, 6 sc on 3rd (27).
Continue working rounds following the pattern until foot shape is complete; close through front loops and pull tight.
Step 10: Feet
With Catania White, hook 2 mm
Join the toes as follows: 5 sc on 1st toe, 9 sc around 2nd, 4 sc on 1st, 6 sc on 3rd (27).
Continue working rounds following the pattern until foot shape is complete; close through front loops and pull tight.
Step 11: Sew on the beak
Sew the beak two rounds below the eyes.
Step 12: Sew on the wings
Attach the wings slightly angled around round 27–28.
Step 13: Sew on tail feathers
Sew the tail centre back at round 7.
Step 14: Embroider claws and sew on feet
With Anthracite yarn, embroider claws on each toe by wrapping the thread vertically around the first round a few times.
Sew the feet centrally onto the legs.
Step 15: Scarf
With Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine 120 in Passion and Gold, hook 3 mm
Using Passion, ch 9, starting in 2nd ch from hook:
Rows 1–4: (1 sc, 1 dc) × 4, turning ch (8).
Change to Gold and work Rows 5–6 the same.
Alternate colours as in the original pattern (approx. 11 sections).
Finish with Passion Rows 1–4, fasten off and weave in ends.
Add fringe if desired.
