Crochet Chemo Cap – Free DIY Tutorial
Handmade support that really means something
Breast cancer touches so many lives – directly or indirectly. With this crochet project, you can make a soft and colorful chemo cap – for yourself, a loved one, or to donate. A small act of kindness, handmade with heart.
Materials required
- 2 x Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big (different colors)
- Wool crochet hooks prym.ergonomics, 16cm, 3.5mm
- Embroidery scissors stork 9cm gold-plated
- Wool needle
Stitch abbreviations
- st – stitch
- ch – chain
- hdc – half double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- MR – magic ring
Note: Unless otherwise stated, the entire hat is worked in half double crochet stitches."

Round 1 / (1:06)
Start with a magic ring (MR).
Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), work 11 hdc into MR. Join with a sl st in 2nd ch. → 12 sts
Round 2 / (2:29)
Ch 2, work 2 hdc in each stitch around. Join with sl st. → 24 sts
Round 3 / (3:33)
Ch 2, 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next repeat. Join with sl st. → 36 sts
Round 4 / (4:44)
Change color. (Do not cut color 1 – carry it up when closing rounds.) Ch 2, 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next. Join with sl st. → 48 sts
Round 5 / (6:15)
Ch 2, 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next. Join. → 60 sts
Round 6 / (7:30)
Ch 2, carry color 1, 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next. Work 11 sts in color 2, 12th st in color 1. Repeat. → 72 sts
Round 7 / (10:13)
Ch 2, carry color 1, 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next. Work 12 sts in color 2, 13th & 14th in color 1. Repeat. → 90 sts
Round 8 / (12:39)
Ch 2, carry color 1, 6 hdc, 2 hdc in next. Work 13 sts in color 2, 14th–16th in color 1. → 102 sts
Round 9 / (14:27)
Ch 2 in color 1. Work 1st st in color 1, 2nd–14th in color 2, 15th–18th in color 1. Repeat. → 114 sts
Round 10 / (16:28)
Ch 2. Work 1st–2nd sts in color 1, 3rd–13th in color 2, 14th–18th in color 1. Join. → 114 sts
Round 11 / (18:23)
Cut color 2. Work entire round in color 1. → 114 sts
Rounds 12-26 / (19:21)
Continue working in color 1. → 114 sts
Rounds 27-29 / (19:43)
Switch to color 2. Finish 3 rounds. Cut yarn and weave in ends. → 114 sts
